Valeta

Laurel Jackson (daughter of the family I live with) had her Valeta two weeks ago. Valeta is the celebration at the end of Slovene Jr. High and I got to experience it first hand. Attending Laurel's Valeta was super special and also a good lesson of Slovene culture. Kids here go to school with the same classmates from 1st-9th grade. Schools don't mix up the classes each year and some teachers even have the same class for a few years in a row. So going to high school means saying goodbye to most of your friends for the last 9 years. All the students were dressed up and their families were there to watch the slide show, eat dinner, and watch them ballroom dance. Knowing how to ballroom dance is important here and a part of most celebrations. I need to work on some moves!
