Trains
I knew funny things would happen. They just come with the territory of being in a new country. The first on my list so far happened last week. I was traveling by train to a town 30 minutes away from where I live to help promote English camps and was meeting up with a Slovene I hadn't yet met. Buying my ticket and getting on the train was easy. Little did I know that getting off would be the hard part. As we approached my stop, I got out of my compartment and headed for the exit. The train stopped. I turned the red handle and pushed out assuming the door would open. Well, it didn't. I tried another door and pushed with my whole body and it budged just a little bit. I started wondering what wasn't working and looked around to see if anyone else was exiting. Nope, just me. And then...the train pulled out of the station with me still on it. "Are you serious?" was the main thing running through my head and then I realized I had to call this pastor I had never met and tell him, "I didn't get off the train." Thankfully, he told me where the next stop was and I was able to exit right after a man opened the door. I called a JV teammate who lived in that town and she picked me up and took me back to the town I was supposed to have exited at. I got a good dose of humility and the reminder that asking for help is good for me and makes me realize I can't do this on my own. Now I just need to figure out how to open the train door!

LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteLittle every day things like "getting of a train" in another country can be confusing! Soon enough you'll get the hang of all those random differences. :) Keep up the good attitude!
